#DaysInJapan: Totoro Forest

Totoro Forest is a conservation forest located in Sayama Hills, Tokyo, which is categorized as a deciduous broadleaf forest. It name, Totoro, was taken from the main character of the animated movie titled “My Neighbor Totoro” that aired at 1988 by Studio Ghibli. The location of scenes in this movie are actually inspired by actual places in this forest. Hayao Miyazaki, who is the director of that movie, is the owner of the foundation that manage this forest called National Trust of Totoro No Furusato (Totoro Hometown) or simply called Totoro Fund . From the animations he made, we can see that Hayao Miyazaki is very concerned in the environmental conservation issues. That’s why he made this foundation which is named after one of  his animation masterpiece.

Teknik Studio: First Maquette Making

Tugas mahasiwa arsitektur pasti nggak jauh dari yang namanya bikin maket, termasuk juga mahasiswa Arsitektur Lanskap. Maket, atau bahasa lainnya maquette (prancis) atau model (inggris) adalah   rencana, representasi, atau deskripsi yang menjelaskan suatu objek, sistem, atau konsep, yang seringkali berupa penyederhanaan atau idealisasi ( Wikipedia ), atau gampangnya adalah miniatur atau versi kecil dari design yang bakalan kita realisasikan nantinya.  Karena belom bisa banyak ngetik (karena tangan abis kena musibah hehe) tapi pengen nge-blog, jadi pengen share tentang tugas maket pertama setelah 3 semester jadi mahasiwa ARL yang kebanyakan berupa foto-foto. Tugas ini adalah tugas akhir mata kuliah Teknik Studio (ARL210) semester 3 kemaren, dimana kita dituntut untuk menguasai teknik-teknik membuat maket yang bakalan banyak kita lakuin nantinya. AMeDAS, The Weather Forecasting System

               In Japan, the citizens commonly run their activity based on the weather forecast. It's because, Japan is well known with the precise weather forecast and all the citizen of Japan are believe in it. So that the weather forecast, including the system and the device, are very important to all the Japanese people. The Automated Meteorological Data Acquisition System (AMeDAS) is a collection of Automatic Weather Stations (AWSs) run by JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) is the device for automatic observation weather aspects to support realtime monitoring of weather conditions with high temporal and spatial resolution. An AMeDAS observing station measuring precipitation, wind direction/speed, temperature and sunshine duration (with snow cover meter). JMA began operating the AMeDAS system, which now currently spreaded all around Japan at average intervals of 17 km nationwide, on 1st November 1974.
